Weekly Photo Challenge : Its Original Name

We always call it “Central Market” of Phsar Thmei. Built in 1937, this yellow art deco building is a Phnom Penh landmark.

Find every goods here, from food, clothes, electronic appliances, and also you can find the stalls which sell the book, jewelry, and flag of Cambodia in every size.

But do you know the original name of this market? Its original name is ផ្សារធំថ្មី as you can see in my photo. The name is written at the top of its main entrance.

Aha.. Can you read the Khmer words? Don’t worry, I also can’t read it. The romanization of its name is “Phsar Thom Thmey”, translated as “New Grand Market”.

But why do we call it “Central Market”? This name caught due to its central location in the heart of Phnom Penh.

So shopaholic.. Don’t forget to come to this market when you travel to Phnom Penh!! It’s one of my favorite place in Phnom Penh, because this place is the best place to get lost.. LOL
